PUBLIC HEALTH CONTINUES TO OFFER TESTING IN COLQUITT COUNTY

ALBANY, GA-With COVID-19 cases spiking across Southwest Georgia, the Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) reminds residents of Colquitt County and the rest of the region that testing is available through a number of public health facilities.

“The current dominant variant of the coronavirus in Georgia is much more contagious than previous strains, and testing is a critical tool to help slow the spread. While testing is available at many healthcare providers throughout our region, our Covid testing sites are crucial for meeting the demand and keeping people from going to overstressed emergency rooms in the region simply to seek a COVID test,” said Charles Ruis, MD, Southwest Health District Health Director.

You do not have to be a resident of Colquitt County to be tested at these sites.   Southwest Health District 8-2 offers testing in Colquitt County at the following locations/times:

  • Monday-Saturday, from 9am to 3pm at Gladys Espy, 1800 Park Avenue SE, Moultrie. Pre-registration is strongly encouraged before showing up at this site and can be completed at mako.exchange/splash/GAmakotesting. Patients will be able to complete the entire testing process without getting out of their vehicle.
  • Tuesday & Thursday, 2-4pm at Colquitt Health Department, 214 W Central Ave, Moultrie. No appointment needed.
  • Clients of the Ellenton Clinic can call (229) 324-2845 to schedule a test.
  • Testing is available in Thomas County, Monday-Friday, 9am-3pm, or 7 days a week in Albany. Visit swhealthdistrict.org for info.

DPH strongly urges anyone who has not yet been vaccinated against COVID-19 to do so right away. “While we have seen an increase in breakthrough infections among vaccinated individuals lately, unvaccinated people are much more likely to contract COVID-19 and suffer more severe complications,” Dr. Ruis said.  “Our advice is simple: get the shot.”
