Southwest Teams Up with KFF’s Greater Than HIV and Walgreens to Bring FREE HIV Testing in Record Number of Stores on National HIV Testing Day, Thursday, June 27

WHAT:          On June 27, National HIV Testing Day, the Southwest Health District will be at a participating Walgreens location(s) to provide FREE HIV testing and counseling as part of the largest coordinated NHTD event in the nation.

WHO:             Counselors from the Southwest Health District can also answer questions about HIV and STDs and provide the latest on prevention and treatment options, including referrals for PrEP (pre-exposure prophylaxis), FDA-approved medications that are highly effective in preventing HIV, and other needed care.

WHEN:          Thursday, June 27, 2024; no appointment needed.

10 am to 3 pm

*Participants must be registered by 2 pm for testing

WHERE:        Walgreens

300 N Slappy Blvd. (Southeast corner of Slappey & Dawson/Pine)

                        Albany, GA 31701

WHY:             The CDC recommends getting tested for HIV as part of routine healthcare, yet many people aren’t getting tested as often as advised.[1] One in seven people living with HIV in the U.S. are unaware of their status.[2] The only way to know is to get tested. Advances in prevention and treatment are bringing us closer to ending HIV. There are more options than ever to stay healthy and prevent transmission regardless of your HIV status. It begins with a test!

Since 2011, KFF’s Greater Than HIV and Walgreens National HIV Community Partnership has provided more than 80,000 free HIV tests through the in-store NHTD program, including over 15,000 self-tests distributed during the height of the COVID-19 pandemic. This year marks the highest level of participation – both in terms of testing partners and stores – in the program’s history.
