Albany, GA- As subfreezing temperatures approach, it is vital to focus on the “4 P’s” — People, Pets, Pipes, and Plants — to protect yourself, your loved ones, and your surroundings during cold weather. Follow these important guidelines:

  1. People:
  2. Limit time spent outdoors, especially during extreme cold.
  3. Prepare for potential power outages by having essential supplies on hand.
  4. Check on vulnerable family members, friends, and neighbors to ensure their safety and well-being.
  • Pets:
  • Bring pets inside during cold weather; if it’s too cold for you, it’s too cold for them.
  • Ensure that pet food and water do not freeze.
  • Provide a warm and comfortable space for your pets.
  • Pipes:
  • Cover and insulate pipes in areas where temperatures are expected to be freezing or below.
  • Open sink cabinets to expose pipes to heated air, preventing freezing.
  • Disconnect hoses and turn off water to sprinklers to avoid damage from freezing water.
  • Plants:
  • Bring potted plants indoors, particularly those sensitive to freezing temperatures.
  • Cover outdoor plants to provide extra insulation and protection against frost.

By taking these precautions, we can reduce the risks associated with freezing weather and keep ourselves, our homes, and our communities safe.
